Jazz Bands

Ready to try new music, a different instrument, work with a smaller group?  Join a Jazz Band class and get going with a different beat.  Jazz Bands will have their own concert dates in the Fall and throughout the year, plus join Concert Band events in the Winter and Spring.

There are two Jazz Band classes at SLOHS:

Stage Jazz Band: Entry-level Jazz Band class. Do not need to be concurrently enrolled in a Marching/Concert Band class. Does not need to be taken for a full year. Meets during normal school hours.

Honors Jazz Band: By audition only. Typically meets after school (6th period).

Jazz Band Concert Attire

Jazz Band members dress in all black for their performances and provide their own attire. No shorts, short skirts, skin tight leggings or spaghetti strap/strapless tops. Students can wear a long-sleeved buttoned shirt/blouse with slacks/dress pants, black socks or nylons, and dress shoes. A tie is not required. A dress or skirt/blouse combination in a below-the-knee-when-sitting length would also be appropriate. Black nylons or tights should be worn with dresses or skirts. Students also have the option of wearing the black Concert Dress that will be lent for the year.
